How To Use Rosin Filter Bag and Pre-Press Mold Efficiently?

How To Use Rosin Filter Bag and Pre-Press Mold Efficiently.jpg

Using rosin filter bags and pre-press molds efficiently is essential for maximizing yield and quality when extracting rosin from cannabis or hemp.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you use these tools effectively:

1. Gather Your Materials

    a. Rosin filter bags (appropriate micron size for your material, e.g., 90µ for flower, 37µ for hash/kief)

    b. Pre-press mold (size matching your filter bags and rosin plates)

    c. Hydraulic or manual rosin press

    d. Parchment paper

    e. Material to press (flower, hash, kief, etc.)

    f. Gloves (optional, to keep things clean)

2. Choose the Right Filter Bag Micron Size

    a. Flower: Use 90µ to 160µ bags for optimal yield and quality.

    b. Hash/Kief: Use 25µ to 73µ bags for cleaner extraction.

    c. Bubble Hash: Use 25µ to 37µ bags for the highest quality rosin.

3. Prepare Your Material

    a. Grind or Break Down Flower: Break up your flower into small, even pieces.

Avoid over-grinding, as this can result in plant material contaminating the rosin.

    b. Hydrate if Necessary: If your material is too dry, use a humidity pack (e.g., 62% Boveda) to rehydrate it slightly.

This improves yield and prevents the rosin from being too brittle.

4. Pack the Pre-Press Mold

     a. Fill the pre-press mold with your material, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.

     b. Press the material firmly into the mold using the pre-press tool. This creates a compact "puck" that fits neatly into the filter bag.

5. Load the Filter Bag

    a. Place the pre-pressed puck into the rosin filter bag.

    b. Fold the top of the bag over to seal it. Some people use a heat sealer or fold it tightly to prevent blowouts during pressing.

6. Set Up Your Rosin Press

    a. Preheat your rosin press to the desired temperature:

    b. Flower: 160°F to 220°F (lower temps for quality, higher temps for yield).

    c. Hash/Kief: 150°F to 180°F (lower temps to preserve terpenes).

    d. Place a sheet of parchment paper on the plates to catch the rosin.

7. Press the Rosin

    a. Place the loaded filter bag between the parchment paper on the heated plates.

    b. Apply gentle pressure to start, allowing the material to warm up for 15-30 seconds.

    c. Gradually increase pressure to full force. Pressing time typically ranges from 1 to 3 minutes, depending on the material and desired yield.

     d. Avoid over-pressing, as this can lead to contaminants in the rosin.

8. Collect and Store the Rosin

    a. Once the press is complete, carefully remove the parchment paper.

    b. Use a dab tool to collect the rosin from the parchment paper.

    c. Store the rosin in an airtight container, preferably in a cool, dark place to preserve terpenes and potency.

Tips for Efficiency

    1. Experiment with Temps and Times: Adjust temperature and pressing time to find the sweet spot for your material.

    2. Use Quality Bags: Invest in durable, high-quality filter bags to avoid blowouts.

    3. Pre-Press Consistently: Uniform pucks ensure even pressure distribution and better yields.

    4. Clean Your Equipment: Regularly clean your plates and tools to avoid contamination.

By following these steps and fine-tuning your process, you can efficiently use rosin filter bags and pre-press molds to produce high-quality rosin.
