Using or not using filter bags is a very personal matter, depending on your own preferences.

If you don't mind getting a final product mixed with essential oils and botanical particles, you don't have to use a rosin press filter bag.

The taste of rosin pressed without a filter bag is more like regular smoking.

However, if you want to experience a better quality dab, we recommend you to use a mesh bag.

Also, you should be aware that you may experience a slight yield loss when pressing with filter bags, which means that ultimately you have to decide for yourself what is most important to you, quality or quantity.

Our suggestion is Rosin is best pressed using a rosin press filter bag to keep contaminants from entering the rosin, and also to better control the stress on the source material during extraction.

What is the best material of rosin press filter bags for rosin?

Nylon, metal, polyester and silk filter bags can be found in the market.

The best material for filter bags is nylon. It is heat resistant, durable and can stretch up to 40% under pressure.

Stainless steel mesh can easily scratch the platen surface and eventually damage them.

Polyester thread bags tend to burst due to heat shrinkage, while silk tends to burst because it doesn't stretch like nylon.

Regardless of micron width, the ideal material for your bag is 100% food grade nylon. Very dry flowers act like sponges. They crave moisture and quickly lose the quality rosin you've worked so hard to extract.

How do you make the highest quality rosin?

By using high quality rosin press filter bags and then hot pressing.

Excellent terpene preservation at 220°F or below, often yielding higher yields than cold-pressed methods.

We have had the best results when pressing flower or plant material at 210° - 220° F, providing a good balance between quality and yield.
